Elizabeth Catlett: A Black Revolutionary Artist and All That It Implies
Exhibition Design
Brooklyn Museum, New York
2024

The exhibition presents over 200 works spanning the lifetime of Elizabeth Catlett—renowned sculptor, printmaker, feminist, and lifelong advocate for social justice. From early ceramics to late-career bronzes, the selection traces the evolution of her artistic practice and her enduring commitment to representing the dignity and strength of Black and Mexican people. The exhibition design begins with individual sculptures and gradually expands to larger groupings of her later works, reflecting the growth and breadth of her vision. A range of display methods was developed to present her sculptures without vitrines whenever possible, inviting a closer, more personal encounter with the people and stories they embody.
