Page translation: "How a proper measuring rod, with which one wishes to measure fields, meadows, vineyards, meadows, orchards, etc., shall be made, follows hereafter. A measuring rod of the correct kind and artfully made for common use shall be made as follows. Sixteen men — small and tall — just as they happen to come out of church one after another, shall each place a foot behind the other's, and thereby a length of sixteen [feet] — that same shoe-length encompassing itself — shall be measured; that same length is and shall be a just, common measuring rod with which one shall measure the field, and it comes about in the manner shown in the following figure."
